Welcome back everyone! This is another book that was on my TBR list which you can see if you go to any of my previous posts.
So I saw this book in the library and I knew I just HAD to read it. Plus, it was already on my wish list.
Just wanted to explain something: instead of star ratings, I use grapes.
I have two new reviews hopefully going to be published by next week, so that's something to look forward to I guess! None of them are on my wish list though.
Hope you enjoy this review!

Blurb:
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who's still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.
What can I say about this book? Wow. Just wow. It was so well developed, and it was fast-paced, making it a very engaging book overall. To be honest, I've wanted to read this book for a long time but I just never got round to it, and I'm so glad I picked it up! I think this book is also going to become a TV series so that's something to look forward to!
Karen M.Mcmanus seriously has some talent as an author. She managed to take typical high school stereotypes and turn them into something else! I never realised that this book was part of a series so that's why if you check my TBR list (will be linked below this post), you will only see the first book (One of Us is Lying) however, I'll probably read the other books soon and review them as well. 😄
This book is definitely one of those rare books which I give five grapes! I've been reading a lot of YA mystery recently so don't be surprised if my next reviews are Mystery, though I do try and change the genre of the book I'm reading up a bit to make it more interesting.
Bronwyn was a typical geek except I did not think that she would have cheated in her chemistry exam because from what I know about geeks (which isn't much) that they're normally really good at studies and even if they were struggling, they wouldn't go so low as to cheat. Her character was still pretty intriguing though.
Nate is the bad boy, and I found his past very engaging. It brought a bit of depth to his character, and it was nice to see his not-so-bad side when he was with Bronwyn. He annoyed me a lot when he made his decision near the end of the book, because bruh why? He was having such a good life and he decided to ruin it. But I think I kind of got his reason too, and at least he decided to change his mind.
I found Addy (the 'princess') a soft character at first and it seemed like she was a bit pointless in the story at first, but I love the way her character developed because when she broke up with James, she became her own person (I was waiting for this for a long time!) and I loved her true badass self.
And Cooper Clay. I felt sorry for him a lot throughout the book. I mean, his father wasn't very supportive of his opinions, but oh my god his Nonny is the best character ever. She reminds me a lot of my grandma and if I ever become old (which is going to take a very long time, trust me, I'm quite young) then she's the kind of Grandma I want to be.
Awesome Nate Macaulay aesthetic! Okay so the change in perspectives confused me a little bit as there were four different perspectives and sometimes if I was halfway through a perspective and then I had to do something (like go to school 🙄) and then I returned, I would be like who is this? But other than that, it's a really good book! 😍😍 Different perspectives made it not too boring.
Did I guess for a minute the right answer to who the murderer will be? Maybe just for a split second, but that's what comes of reading a lot of YA murder mysteries. The murder was super complex, and if you're not into YA murder as much as me, I doubt you will guess. At first I thought it was Addy because, well, first she does nothing when Simon dies, but after I realised she was too weak to do that - no offence, Addison. Then I thought it would be Janae, because she was acting pretty guilty. I still don't understand Leah's character properly, but I thought she was a possibility. And I also thought, maybe Jake...? But as you can see most of these were random guesses and I didn't have much success. Not telling you who the murderer was though - you'll have to read the story. But the story still won't tell you who the murderer is because there is no murderer...?
This book is a definite five grapes! Can't wait to read the next two books in the series, Two Can Keep a Secret and One of Us is Next.
By the time I finished this review - it took me a couple of days to write because I was going crazy over a new song released by my favourite artists, but more about that in another one of my posts - I have already read another book which I have to do a review of now, so expect that in maybe three or four days. I also have to read another book after that and review THAT, so this month there's going to be quite a lot of reviews! Thank you for reading this far, and bye!
