Book Review: H.I.V.E.: Overlord Protocol by Mark Walden

Hello everyone! I know I posted recently, but, you know me, I read a lot of books and therefore I have to review them because I just can't keep my feelings to myself.

I can't believe we're like, two-thirds into September! In another week I'm probably going to be doing a monthly roundup for September: which has been a very productive month, book-wise. Study-wise...not so sure. But there's the rest of the year for that stuff, right?

Whatever.

So today I'm back with the second book in the series, H.I.V.E.!

H.I.V.E.: Overlord Protocol by Mark Walden

Genre(s): Thriller, Science Fiction, Young Adult

Blurb:

A new power is rising to challenge Number One, the most formidable villain alive. But who is it? And why do they want to assassinate Otto Malpense, star pupil of H.I.V.E., and his best friend Wing Fanchu?

Otto faces his toughest challenge yet - surviving the next twenty-four hours...and uncovering the terrifying truth which lies behind the Overlord Protocol.

The second book in the series! This book, compared to the other book when Otto and his friends attempted to escape from the school, comprises of the whole school - well, the whole school that are not traitors, anyway - fighting to protect the school that now feels like home to Otto and his classmates.

This book happens in a much smaller time compared to the other book. I'm not sure how long the other book took, but this one only happened over 24 hours, but the pace was really fast, although at times I got a bit lost xD.

This book was a lot better than the other book, all in all. The age recommendation is more fitting for ages 9-11 in my opinion. I am obviously older, I read this as a teen and it was an engaging book though not something I would choose to read over, let's say, One of Us is Lying by Karen M.McManus or A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. The genre of this book is young adult, but it's also suitable for people younger I guess.

Otto's character isn't changed much in this book. Wing finds out that his father has died, which allows him to leave the island with one other student, and he chooses Otto. Otto, Raven and Wing go but are split up. Otto and Raven try to get back to H.I.V.E. but their pilot betrays them, and in the end Otto is the one who saves everyone by using his genius mind to perform calculations - something that world normally have taken them three hours, in maybe less than two minutes.

I think I would have liked to see this book in Otto's POV as a lot of things I really want to see into his mind, like when he 'blacked out' and saved the school. And I also want to see if he has some sort of relationship with Laure because the two of them would be cute together. Shelby definitely likes Wing though 🙂

This book is getting four grapes! I was debating whether to give this four or five grapes as this book WAS a lot better than the other one, but in the end I decided on four grapes as there is still some thigns that could have been improved.

I know I just posted yesterday but you guys are lucky (AGAIN) and you get two reviews one after each other. My next review is probably going to be sometime next week, maybe for the sequel of One of Us is Lying or the mystery book I mentioned in my previous post. that's all for now, Byeeee!
